What Time Is It?

It looks like my Seiko has finally given up. A couple of weeks ago, it stopped running. "No problem, just needs a new battery" I thought. I took it in and got the battery replaced. At the same time, I decided it was time to try a new look. The Seiko had a black face, but a bracelet style gold band. I had them to take that off and put a brown leather strap on it. It looked sharp, and I was happy.

Two days later, it stopped running again. Maybe I just got a bad battery? I took it back and the girl tested the battery. She said it tested fine, but put a different one in, just in case. It ran for 2 weeks after that, but stopped again. Having enough of it all, I decided it was time for a new watch.

I'm surprised that watches have gotten larger and thicker over the years. Back in the day, thinness was the goal. Not anymore. I found it a challenge to find one that wasn't too large, or didn't have all of that chronograph crap on it. Who really uses that anyway?

I found this Citizen watch, model BM7100-16E. Nice black face, black leather strap, and just a date window. I've heard good things about Citizen watches, but have never owned one. This is an Eco-Drive model. It has a rechargeable battery which is powered by light, either artificial or natural sunlight. In theory, you never need to replace the battery.

Pros and Cons? It is larger and thicker than my old Seiko, and has taken some getting used to. The good thing about that is it's easy to read, even with my glasses off. On the con side, the date window is very small and I have a hard time reading it, even with my glasses on. WTF Citizen?
