My Bedroom is My Bedroom ... Again

My Dad was living in my bedroom the time he was here, from August 2006 - June 2010. I was using the small bedroom on the opposite end of the house. I wanted him to use the master because it has it's own bathroom.

When he moved out last year, the renovation began. The carpet was original, ruined and disgusting. I decided to put hardwood laminate flooring in the entire house, and this room is where I started.

I blogged about this earlier (click here if you're interested).

This really was a complete renovation, starting with the ceiling and working my way down. I scraped the popcorn finish off the ceiling and replaced it with a knock-down finish (thanks Brad).

After painting the ceiling, the walls were next. Nothing too difficult about the walls, with the exception of trying to remove the border that used to go around the top of the room. It was stubborn and took some layers of drywall paper with it when it came off.

I wasn't sure what to do about the color of the room, but in the long run I ended up using a color called 'rainwashed' by Sherwin Williams. It has a green hue to it, without being too green. I thought it looked soothing on the sample swatch when I saw it, adding color too the room without being overpowering.

After paint, the floor was the next thing to be installed. I used flooring by Armstrong, and the finish is called 'Applewood'. This is a thick (13mm) laminate flooring that snaps together. I had never done flooring before and wasn't sure what I'd gotten myself in to. In the end, the worry was for nothing. I had the closet and floor done in less than 8 hours. Not too bad, and it looks better than I had ever hoped.

Over the last 2 weeks, I've been moving back into the room. I originally wanted to build my own bed, but realized I may be waiting forever if I went that route. I just don't have that amount of free time right now. I found a nice bed and a gentleman's chest to match, as well as a single night stand (it has not yet arrived).

Here's the result. Because of my laziness, it took me close to a year to complete this, but it was worth the wait. I slept in there for the first time in almost five years last night. I have a problem with the bed being too firm right now, but it felt great to be back in my own room.
